asked the Minister of Transport (1) how many persons have sustained serious injuries, short of death, as a result of accidents on British roads since 1960;

(2) how many persons have died as a result of accidents on British roads since 1960.

Over the 20 years 1960–1979, 1,750,000 persons have been seriously injured and 143,000 have died as a result of road accidents in Great Britain.
