§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in the light of escalating prescription costs, and the possibility of further increases in the future, he will enter into negotiations with the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain so that pharmacists can prescribe for minor ailments and help to relieve excessive strain on the National Health Service.
§ Mr. Patrick JenkinA recent campaign by the Health Education Council encouraged patients to treat minor ailments themselves, with advice if necessary from the local pharmacist; and this will often entail the supply by the pharmacist of medicins which do not require a doctor's prescription.
