asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is satisfied with the facilities currently provided for off-duty travel by Service personnel.

Mr. Hayhoe

I am broadly satisfied with the facilities for off-duty travel but we are continuing to examine possible improvements including an experimental railcard scheme to allow Service personnel and their families to travel at reduced fares.

due to be completed next year, is estimated to cost £10,550,000 of which the amount attributable to the officers' mess is approximately £1,130,000.
