HC Deb 11 March 1980 vol 980 cc519-20W
Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he will give his estimate of the numbers of United Kingdom and Colonies passport holders currently resident in Zimbabwe-Rhodesia together with the number of residents there with British and Rhodesian citizenship, respectively, who are patrial.

Mr. Luce

No up-to-date figures are available. Figures derived from the 1969 census indicated approximately 80,000 citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies and a further 75,000 patrials. However, these take no account of emi- gration since then, and the current totals are probably considerably lower.

Mr. David Steel

asked the Lord Privy Seal why the Rhodesian authorities confiscated four copies of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation publication "Women and Racial Discrimination in Rhodesia", by Sister Aquina Weinrich, from a traveller at Salisbury Airport on 28 January; whether this material has now been returned to its owner; if the publication concerned has been placed on the banned list; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

The information is not readily available.
