HC Deb 11 March 1980 vol 980 c498W
Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the average landed cost per pair of men's and women's leather footwear from Romania, Poland and Czechoslovakia; and by how much the cost of such footwear has increased in the last three years.

Mr. Eyre

The information for men's and women's footwear—other than for sports or gymnastics—with uppers of leather and outer soles of leather, composition leather, rubber or artificial plastic material, is as follows:

Mr. Prentice

A recent report from the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council has recommended that occupational vitiligo should be prescribed as an industrial disease for the purposes of industrial injuries benefits. I am pleased to say that, having studied the report, the Government accept the council's recommendation and arrangements are in hand for its implementation.

The prescription of the disease will benefit a small number of workers who develop vitiligo following exposure to paratertiary butyl phenol, which is contained in an adhesive used in the car industry, or to certain other chemicals. At present some, but not all, of those workers affected can claim for dermatitis (prescribed disease 42).
