asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total cost to public funds in legal aid for the defence of those persons who were convicted of the Shankhill Butcher murders in 1978.

Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total cost to public funds of giving legal aid to persons charged with scheduled terrorist offences in each year from 1970 up to 1979 inclusive.

[pursuant to his reply, 6 March 1980, c. 343]: This information could only be provided at disproportionate cost, as the legal aid records do not distinguish between scheduled and non-scheduled offences.

Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total cost to public funds in legal aid for the defence of those persons who were charged and convicted of the murder of Captain Robert Nairac.
