HC Deb 10 March 1980 vol 980 cc447-8W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what tax reliefs are available to private industry in respect of insulation of premises or other energy-saving devices; and what estimate has been made of the total value of such reliefs to private industry during the current financial year.

Mr. Peter Rees

A 100 per cent. first-year allowance is available on capital expenditure incurred in adding any thermal insulation to an existing industrial building, as defined for tax purposes. The same allowance is also available to any trader who incurs capital expenditure on machinery or plant for energy-saving purposes in his trade. I regret that insufficient information is available centrally to make an estimate of the total value of such reliefs.
