HC Deb 10 March 1980 vol 980 c426W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many one-parent families he estimates are currently not on supplementary benefit who otherwise would be if (a) child benefit increase did not exist and (b) child benefit did not exist;

Mrs. Chalker

I regret that no estimate is available, nor is one possible without disproportionate use of staff and computer resources.

Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many one-parent families would be removed from supplementary benefit if child benefit were raised to (a) £6.60, (b) £8.50 and (c) £11.10 and in case if child benefit increase were (i) 50 per cent., (ii) 100 per cent. and (iii) 200 per cent. of the rate of child benefit.

Mrs. Chalker

I regret that estimates as requested could not be made without disproportionate recourse to staff and computer resources.
