asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is possible to give, for a recent date, the number of persons in England and Wales who were sentenced to imprisonment for life but were subsequently removed to, and are now detained in, one of the special hospitals.

On 31st December 1979 about 65 persons subject to restrictions on discharge who had been sentenced to life imprisonment were detained in special hospitals in England and Wales, having been transferred from prison department establishments.
