HC Deb 10 March 1980 vol 980 cc432-3W
Mr. Waldegrave

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, under the new procedure for evicting council tenants contained in the Housing Bill, it will be possible for tenants to continue to receive rent rebate up to the date of eviction, or whether the present procedure where a notice to quite ends any rebate entitlement, will be continued; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

If the Bill is passed as it now stands, a secure tenancy will end at the coming into force of a possession order, whereas tenancies now end at the expiry of a notice to quit. Rent will therefore be payable, and rebates claimable, until a later stage, although not necessarily until the occupant leaves.
