In the period 1 September 1973 to 31 December 1978, 191 Ethiopians were recognised as refugees under the convention relating to the status of refugees: it is not possible to distinguish between those who were admitted as refugees and those who were so recognised after admission under some other heading of the immigration rules.
Thirty Ethiopians were admitted to the United Kingdom as refugees during 1979, and a further 40 who applied during 1979 for refugee status after admission were recognised as refugees.
