HC Deb 07 March 1980 vol 980 c355W
Miss Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, pending the report of his Chief Medical Officer concerning medical examinations and X-ray examinations for the purposes of immigration control, any interim instructions have been given to overseas posts in the Indian sub-continent regarding the circumstances in which adults and children should or should not be X-rayed for non-medical purposes.

Mr. Raison

Interim instructions were given in October 1979 to posts in the Indian sub-continent to the effect that they should not ask for bone X-ray examinations to help in the age assessment of adults. Such examinations may still be sought to help assess the age of applicants who are believed to be below 21 years of age.
