§ Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in view of the savings in Government expenditure which will result from the assisted places scheme, why he has halved the numbers for the first year of the scheme.
§ Dr. BoysonThe assisted places scheme is being financed from additional funds provided by the Government. It could not be financed from savings in local government expenditure, because the number of pupils involved will be limited and any effect on such expenditure is therefore likely to be only marginal.
