HC Deb 06 March 1980 vol 980 c309W
Mr. Allan Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average annual cost of a jobcentre in Scotland.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

Information on the average annual cost of a job-centre in Scotland is not readily available. The average annual directly attributable cost of a medium-sized jobcentre in Great Britain—that is, one with 11 to 19 staff—was about £85,000 in 1978–79.

Mr. Allan Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the cost per person placed in a job by a Scottish jobcentre.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

Information on the cost per placing in Scottish job-centres is not readily available. A survey carried out by the Manpower Services Commission in 1979 indicated that the average annual cost of a jobcentre placing in Great Britain was £30.10, excluding the cost of activities which did not directly contribute to placings.
