HC Deb 06 March 1980 vol 980 cc324-5W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will list all grants available to industry through his Department with the objective of further energy conservation; and what is the total of public money committed under each scheme up to 29 February.

Mr. John Moore

Grants in connection with energy conservation are available to industry under two schemes administered by my Department: first, the energy survey scheme, which provides grants of up to £75 towards one-day surveys of energy use and up to 50 per cent. of the cost of longer in-depth surveys. Second, under the energy conservation demonstration projects scheme, which is jointly administered by my Department and the Department of Industry, grants—normally 25 per cent.—are available towards the capital costs of projects promoting new energy-saving technology, together with the full costs of monitoring such a project.

To date, some £1.7 million has been spent on the energy survey scheme with forward commitments of some £600,000 in respect of extended surveys which are subject to prior approval by the Department. Current Government commitments on the demonstration projects scheme amount to some £3 million.
