HC Deb 05 March 1980 vol 980 cc221-2W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what request he has received from the United States Navy for accommodation for its Service men cur-recently using West Ruislip air base; and when he expects to be able to make a statement of his Department's intentions.

Mr. Hayhoe

The United States Navy has asked whether the Ministry of Defence can provide married quarters as an alternative to quarters it has been considering building on Ministry of Defence land at West Ruislip. As part of the general review of Government property holdings we are urgently examining our requirements for married quarters in the London area, and if we can offer quarters to the United States Navy, we shall. I cannot at present say when the review will be completed or whether it will be possible to meet United States Navy requirements.

Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Defence on what date land at West Ruislip air base was transferred by his Department to the Property Services Agency.

Mr. Hayhoe

The Property Services Agency is taking preliminary action on the disposal of approximately 20 acres of land at West Ruislip. Outstanding details have now been cleared and the land will be passed formally to it within a few days.
