HC Deb 05 March 1980 vol 980 cc192-3W
32. Mr. Lang

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the present powers of the Scottish Tourist Board.

Mr. Younger

The functions and powers of the Scottish Tourist Board and of the other statutory tourist bodies are set out in the Development of Tourism Act 1969. The Government arc concerned to ensure that support and promotion for tourism is conducted in the most effective manner. I am aware that there is dissatisfaction in Scotland about the way in which the present arrangements have operated, and I propose to consider carefully any recommendations which I may receive from the new chairman of the Scottish Tourist Board, when he has been able to form conclusions about the scope of the board's activities in relation to the needs of the industry in Scotland.
