Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will make an early statement regarding the likelihood of Scottish Office funding for the British Broadcasting Corporation Scotland educational programmes;

(2) what approach has been made by the British Broadcasting Corporation regarding Scottish Office funding for British Broadcasting Corporation Scotland educational programmes; and what has been the response.

The British Broadcasting Corporation, Scotland has asked my Department to provide financial support for the educational broadcasting programmes which it produces for schools in Scotland, and has been informed that this request will be studied.

(2) if he list the number of households containing disabled children and the rate per 1,000 child population in each region who received assistance with the installation of telephones in 1978–79;

(3) if he will list the number of households containing disabled children and the rate per 1,000 child population in each region who received assistance with the provision of aids in 1978–79;

(4) if he will list the number of households containing disabled children and the rate per 1,000 child population in each region who received assistance with adaptations to the home in 1978–79.

Provisional figures of services provided by local authorities for disabled children in 1978–79 are contained in the table below.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of schools in Scotland makes use of British Broadcasting Corporation Scotland educational programmes.

A sample survey showed that 82 per cent. of primary schools and 76 per cent. of secondary schools made use of educational programmes produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation, Scotland in session 1978–79. These figures exclude the use made by schools of United Kingdom programmes, parts of which have been produced in Scotland.
