HC Deb 04 March 1980 vol 980 cc159-60W
15. Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much has been spent from funds allocated by his Department on research into tropical diseases in each of the last five financial years; and what is the anticipated amount for 1980–81.

Mr. Macfarlane

The Medical Research Council spent, in the four financial years starting with 1975–76, £1,280,000, £1,660,000, £2,140,000 and £2,190,000 respectively on research into tropical medicine from its grant from my Department's funds. The estimate for 1979–80 is £2,280,000. I cannot at this stage give a figure for 1980–81.
