Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of the total private investment funds available during the past five years has been invested outside the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lawson

[pursuant to his reply, 15 February 1980, c. 827]: Identified investment by the non-bank private sector outside the United Kingdom as a percentage of the sector's total identified investment funds, for the years 1974 to 1978 and for the first three quarters of 1979, is given below. Complete information for the fourth quarter of 1979 is not available until April.

† Includes investment in overseas company and government securities, intra-company investment by United Kingdom companies (including unremitted profits of overseas subsidiaries and associates), other overseas assets, both long and short-term, including export credit given. Comparable liabilities to the overseas sector are included as part of total private sector investment funds.
‡ Includes saving, capital transfer receipts and funds (net) from public sector, funds from the banking sector and identified investment in the non-bank private sector from outside the United Kingdom
