Mr. Robert Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many patients from the area of Greater Glasgow and Lothian health boards requiring open-heart valve replacement surgery and coronary artery bypass surgery obtained treatment in hospitals outside Scotland in the years 1978 and 1979;

(2) how many patients from the area of Greater Glasgow and Lothian health boards requiring open-heart valve replacement surgery and coronary artery bypass surgery obtained treatment during the years 1978 and 1979; what was the average waiting time; and what the position is expected to be in the current year, excluding emergency cases;

(3) how many patients in total requiring open-heart valve replacement surgery and coronary bypass surgery obtained treatment in each of the Glasgow cardiac units and the Edinburgh cardiac unit during the years 1978 and 1979; what are the expected numbers in the current year; and what was the average waiting time for surgery, excluding emergency cases;

(4) what are the numbers of patients on the waiting list from the Grampian regional health board for open-heart valve replacement surgery and for coronary artery bypass surgery; what was the waiting time, respectively, excluding emergency cases, for the years 1979 and 1978; and what is the current position;

(5) how many patients from the Grampian health board area requiring open-heart valve replacement surgery and coronary artery bypass surgery have been operated on in Glasgow, Edinburgh or London during the years 1979 and 1978; and what was the average waiting time, excluding emergency cases;

(6) how many patients from the area of the Grampian health board requiring emergency open-heart valve replacement surgery and coronary artery bypass surgery obtained treatment in Edinburgh Glasgow or London during the years 1978 and 1979.
