HC Deb 04 March 1980 vol 980 cc107-8W
33. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Employment to what factors he attributes the fall in unemployment compared with that of 1979 in divisions of the Manpower Services Commission serving the Epping Forest parliamentary constituency.

Mr. Jim Lester

I am pleased to confirm that in February this year the number of people registered as unemployed at the Manpower Services Commission's Epping and Loughton employment offices was lower than in the same month last year.

A large proportion of the people who live in this area travel to work in other parts of London and the South-East where the employment situation generally is more buoyant. It is not possible, therefore, to identify any single factor which has led to this reduction in the level of unemployment.
