Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the initiatives he has taken since his appointment in respect of assisting claimants and potential claimants of social security benefits to understand their rights fully.

Since May 1979, there have been two additional initiatives to assist benefit take up:

  1. (i) an advertising campaign for family income supplement
  2. and
  3. (ii) a campaign explaining eligibility for help with prescriptions and dental charges.

Other publicity continues as previously. The need for new initiatives remains under review.
