HC Deb 04 March 1980 vol 980 cc132-3W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many employees in each grade in area health authorities are expected to become redundant by the time reorganisation is completed at the end of 1983; and what this figure is expressed as a percentage of the total number of health authority employees.

Dr. Vaughan

If the proposals in "Patients First" are confirmed as policy, there will be consultations on how they should be implemented locally. Until decisions are taken, after those consultations, it is not possible to make a meaningful estimate of how many, if any, employees will become redundant. We hope that much can be achieved by natural wastage and our scheme for early retirement.
