asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many civil servants are wholly employed on paying supplementary benefits at strike centres to steel workers.

Mr. Prentice

I am unable at present to add to my reply to my hon. Friend on 28 January.—[Vol. 977, c.481.] I shall be able to give the information then promised as soon as there has been time to collect and summarise it after the strike has ended.

Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much money has been paid out to date in social security benefits to the steel strikers and their families.

Up to 26 February, £4,698,000 in supplementary benefit.
