HL Deb 03 March 1980 vol 406 cc131-2WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will seek powers to compel manufacturers of alcoholic drinks to publish, on the label or on the container itself, a warning of the damage alcohol may cause to the consumer's health.

Lord CULLEN of ASHBOURNE

Alcohol presents a health risk only if misused and, although it is sometimes suggested that a health warning on drinks containers might act as a continuing form of health education, it would be extremely difficult to devise a succinct, accurate and unambiguous warning. There are no plans to attempt this.

Lord BELSTEAD

The information is as follows. The table on appeals to adjudicators relates to the number of appeals determined. The tables on appeals to the Tribunal relate to the number of cases disposed of (where one case can involve more than one appeal).
