§ Mr. Jim LesterThe information for 1961 and later years is given in an article, "Employment in the public and private sectors 1961–78" on page 90 of the November 1979 issue ofEconomic Trends. In 1960, the nationalised industries, which then did not include the Post Office, employed 1,830,000 people, or 7.7 per cent. of civilian employment. Figures for 1950 are not available.
