§ Mr. Michael Brownasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will visit the community care scheme which is being run by Kent county council and recommended to other local authorities that they pursue similar schemes.
§ Sir George YoungThe Kent community care project is a potentially valuable scheme in which Ministers at this Department are taking a close interest. The Department is funding the personal 357W social services research unit at the University of Kent to develop it in collaboration with the county's social services department. I have no plans to visit the project at present and the work is at too early a stage for me to recommend it to other authorities; authorities are, of course, free to experiment with similar schemes if they wish to do so.
