HC Deb 25 June 1980 vol 987 c205W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on his talks with Mr. Robert MacNamara, so far as they relate to Her Majesty's Government's attitude towards a world aid and food plan.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

I will let the hon. Member have a reply as soon as possible.

The figures are shown only at current prices. Comparisons between the two dates of net incomes at constant prices would be misleading if based on unchanged gross incomes, since they would take account of changes in prices over the period but not of increases in incomes, apart from child benefit and family income supplement.

It has been assumed that in the two-child family the children are both under the age of 11 and in the four-child family two are under 11, one aged between 11 and 16 and over 16.

Family income supplement and child benefit have been included where applicable at the rates in force in November 1978 and May 1980.

In every case national insurance contributions at the not contracted out rate have been used.

The May 1980 figures take account of the changes in income tax rates and allowances announced in the Budget.
