HC Deb 25 June 1980 vol 987 c194W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many acres of trees were planted by owner-occupiers in Wales in 1979; and what were the corresponding figures for the last three years.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

A precise breakdown is not readily available, although it is believed that most private planting in Wales is undertaken by or on behalf of owner occupiers. The total area of private planting for which grant-aid was provided in the year ended 31 March 1979 is shown below with the corresponding figures for the previous three years.

States' bilateral food aid programmes, some 75,000 tonnes of cereals, 23,000 tonnes of dried skimmed milk and 4,000 tonnes of butter oil have been or will be shipped during 1980 to the countries principally affected (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda).
