HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 c106W
Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he will consider introducing an alteration to the immigration rules that restricts representation made by hon. Members of this House on behalf of a visitor to the United Kingdom who has been refused entry by an immigration officer, to cases directly associated with that hon. Member's constituency;

(2) if he will introduce changes to the immigration rules to abrogate the right of hon. Members to require the Home Office to reconsider any refusal of entry.

Mr. Raison

No. The immigration rules are not an appropriate means of dealing with these matters.

Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made, if any, on the review of procedural rules associated with appeals of intending immigrants or visitors.

Mr. Raison

A review is in progress of the rules of procedure for appeals generally, but I cannot say when it will be completed.
