HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 cc75-6W
12. Mr. Jim Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many jobs have been lost in hosiery and knitwear in the East Midlands area in the last three months;

(2) what has been the reduction of jobs in the hosiery and knitwear industry in the last 12 months.

Mr. Jim Lester

Regional figures are not available, but for Great Britain provisional estimates show that between December 1979 and March 1980 the number of people employed in the manufacture of hosiery and other knitted goods fell by 2,500. Between March 1979 and March 1980 the number fell by 5,400.
