HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 c155W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what consideration has been given to a greater degree of standardisation in computer equipment in schools; and what information he has about the sort of equipment that schools are using.

Mr. Macfarlane

It is for individual local education authorities and schools to decide what equipment best meets their needs, but consideration of the problems caused by lack of standardised equipment will form part of the microelectronics development programme for schools and colleges. Systematic information about the equipment used in schools is not available in the Department, partly because provision is subject to rapid change.
