§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what a car, oil and petrol, driver, tax and insurance of a car and garage and upkeep would be worth to any person claiming wife allowance on a taxed basis if any recipient had a salary of between £26,000 to £31,000 per annum.
§ Mr. Peter ReesThis would depend on the value of the car, the extent to which it was used and so on. Roughly speaking, each £100 of such provision, if untaxed, would be worth the same as about £220 of gross salary.
