asked the Minister of Transport what is the current level of capital expenditure and the number of employees in British Railways.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Capital expenditure in the year ending 31 December 1979 was £205.9 million. The total number of employees, as at 22 March 1980, for the Railways Board as a whole, including the subsidiaries, was 240,534.
