HC Deb 20 June 1980 vol 986 c680W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will take the necessary action to approve an increase in the quota of places available at Methodist college, Belfast, so as to relieve the pressure for grammar school places in North Down.

Mr. Goodhart

Intakes of day pupils to all secondary schools for September 1980 have been determined in consultation and agreement with the appropriate school authorities. This includes the Methodist college, Belfast and there has been no request from its governing body to alter the agreed figure.

An increase to the agreed intakes for grammar schools would only arise from the consideration of appeals made by parents under the transfer procedure.
