HL Deb 20 June 1980 vol 410 cc1355-6WA
The Marquess of SLIGO

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proportion of the costs of British milk production is accounted for by imported foodstuffs, particularly concentrates; what is the total value of these imports; and how the United Kingdom compares in these matters with the other milk producing countries of the EEC.

The MINISTER of STATE, MINISTRY of AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES and FOOD (Earl Ferrers)

Although information is available on the total net value and quantity of animal feedingstuffs which are imported into the European Community, it is not possible to specify the amounts which are fed to dairy cattle. Nor is it possible to make any reliable estimate of the proportion of the costs of milk production within the United Kingdom or other member states which is accounted for by imported feedingstuffs.

House adjourned at five minutes past one o'clock.
