HC Deb 19 June 1980 vol 986 cc668-9W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what total annual EEC aid for the British fishing industry he would consider appropriate as part of a Community fisheries agreement ; and whether he will make such a sum available to the industry on a national basis until a settlement is reached.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The level of aid for the fishing industry must depend on the industry's circumstances and other considerations which vary from time to time. The Government will continue to keep under review the level of aid to be provided, whether as part of a European Community programme or on a national basis. This year we are already committed to provide the fishing industry with £23.5 million of aid.
