HC Deb 19 June 1980 vol 986 cc655-6W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will set out in the Official Report the cost to the taxpayer of the recurring expenditure of the voluntary and voluntary maintained schools which are vested in Church authorities.

Mr. Goodhart

This information is not available in the form requested and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However, the total sum paid from public funds to meet the cost of salaries of teachers and associated payments for grant-aided voluntary and voluntary maintained schools—other than voluntary grammar schools—was £42.5 million for the financial year ending 31 March 1979. The net revenue payments made by education and library boards in respect of these schools for that year was £15 million.
