However, the total sum paid from public funds to meet the cost of salaries of teachers and associated payments for grant-aided voluntary and voluntary maintained schools—other than voluntary656W grammar schools—was £42.5 million for the financial year ending 31 March 1979. The net revenue payments made by education and library boards in respect of these schools for that year was £15 million.
