§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East on 2 April, if he will give details of the project that the National Children's Bureau was to carry out into the problems that children face on leaving the care of local authorities ; when he expects this to be completed ; and if he will make a further statement.
§ Sir George YoungFollowing the good response to the National Children's560W Bureau's project "Who Cares", the Department has given a grant to the bureau to undertake a new project—"Carefully On". This project will seek out the views of youngsters who are still in care or have left care and of people with responsibilities for them. Its general aims are to :
- i. look at the planning and provision for young people leaving care in their late teens ;
- ii. discover some of the factors and practices which make for helpful transition to adulthood and independence ;
- iii. identify some of the gaps in provision and needs.
The project started early this year and is expected to be completed early in 1982.
