Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the estimated saving in the present financial year of the change of policy of the Supplementary Benefits Commission, concerning exceptional needs payments for removal expenses by local authority tenants ;

(2) if he will make a statement on the representations made to him by the Liverpool welfare rights advice centre, concerning a change of policy by the Supplementary Benefits Commission on claims for exceptional needs payments, a copy of which has been sent to him by the hon. Member for Liverpool, Scotland Exchange ;

(3) what consultations have taken place with interested parties concerning the change of policy by the Supplementary Benefits Commission of claims for exceptional needs payments for removal expenses for local authority tenants ;

(4) if he is satisfied with the effect of recent changes in policy on claims for exceptional needs payments for removal expenses for local authority housing tenants by the Supplementary Benefits Commission.

There has been no recent change in the policy of the Supplementary Benefits Commission on the granting of exceptional needs payments for removal costs. The representations to which the hon. Member refers are receiving attention.
