HC Deb 18 June 1980 vol 986 c583W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps have been taken by his Department to implement the recommendations made in the seventh report of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution, paragraph 3.10, that data on the quantities of active ingredients manufactured and sold as pesticides should be made freely available and that his Department should take the initiative in this matter.

Mr. Peter Walker

In its published response to the Royal Commission's report the British Agrochemicals Association has indicated its willingness to obtain and release manufacturing and sales data of this kind, and its intention to conduct the necessary surveys for 1980 and 1981. The recommended departmental initiative to which the hon. Member refers is concerned with improving the collection and use of data on pesticide usage by involving other principal organisations concerned ; and on this I refer him to the action already taken as described in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Melton (Mr. Latham) on 22 May.—[Vol. 985, c.267–68.]
