HC Deb 18 June 1980 vol 986 c587W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether it is proposed that cruise missiles will be transferred from base to base along public roads ; and, if so, what security precautions will be taken during transit.

Mr. Pym

When the ground-launched cruise missile flights deploy off base for training they will use dummy missiles containing only inert material. So far as operational nuclear weapons are concerned, however, it is a long-standing policy of both the United States and British Governments not to give any details of arrangements for their movement or security. I can, however, assure the hon. Gentleman that very stringent precautions are taken to ensure the security and safety of nuclear weapons at all times, and that movements are kept to the minimum needed to meet operational needs.
