HL Deb 13 June 1980 vol 410 c815WA
Lord BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will amend Section 13 of the Visiting Forces Act 1952 permitting them to exempt deserters on grounds of conscience or compassion, from the provision authorising the extradition of members of the armed forces to their country of service.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Belstead)

My right honourable friend is not at present convinced of the need to amend the arrangements for the return of persons to whom the Visiting Forces Act applies; but this will be kept under review.
