HL Deb 13 June 1980 vol 410 cc816-8WA
Baroness STEDMAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether any decision has been taken about the future of the Fire Service Staff College at Dorking.

Baroness STEDMAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What consultations arc taking place about the future of the Fire Service Staff College at Dorking and which organisations are being asked for their views.

Lord BELSTEAD

The views of the following organisations have been sought on the proposal that, in order to save manpower, the functions of the Fire Service Staff College at Dorking should be transferred to the Fire Service Technical College at Moreton-in-Marsh and the Dorking establishment closed:

  • Association of County Councils
  • Association of Metropolitan Authorities
  • Confederation of Scottish Local Authorities
  • Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers' Association
  • National Association of Fire Officers
  • Fire Brigades' Union
The Civil Service unions affected have been informed through the staff side of the Home Office departmental Whitley Council and comments have been received from the Institution of Professional Civil Servants. Comments have also been received from some fire authorities and fire brigades, and from private individuals.

The proposal and comments have been fully discussed at meetings of the Fire Service College Board.

The Government are considering the views received and a decision will be announced shortly.
