§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in pursuance of his review of policies designed to contain the upsurge in crime, he will seek to establish from the Government of the Isle of Man if there has been any change in the incidence of violent crime convictions on the island since the decision of the European Court on the legality of corporal punishment in the Isle of Man.
§ Mr. BrittanAs it is only two years since the European Court's decision it is too soon to say whether there has been any change in the incidence of violent crime on the Isle of Man. Moreover, conclusions drawn from the incidence of crime and the availability of particular penalties in a small community such as the Isle of Man are not necessarily applicable to this country.
