§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make an oral statement on the action he proposes to recommend to the United States to reduce the risk of a nuclear war brought about by accident or design, following the recent false nuclear alerts.
§ Mr. PymWe are in touch with the United States about the false strategic alerts on 3 June and 6 June. I shall be considering what more can be said when further details are known. As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister and I have already made clear, the United States' response to the alerts was wholly defensive ; there was no danger of triggering war by mistake.
