Mr. Fairgrieve

At 30 September 1979, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 2,834 administrators and 8,577 medically qualified staff in the National Health Service in Scotland, a ratio of approximately 1:3. The figure for medically qualified staff includes hospital and community doctors and general practitioners. If restricted to hospital doctors only, their number was 5,109 and the ratio approximately 1 : 2.

All figures are in whole-time equivalent terms.
