§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsSince the Government took office a year ago, three devaluations of the green pound, together with the increased strength of sterling, have eliminated substantial monetary compensatory refunds previously paid to importers, allowing the United Kingdom livestock industries to compete with farmers in other EEC countries on much more equitable terms. Support prices for milk products, beef and pigmeat have increased and the ceiling for hill livestock compensatory allowances has been raised.
