§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many hours of voluntary work are given by members of community health councils in Scotland; what is his assessment of the importance of such voluntary work; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Fairgrieve: I have not thought it desirable to add to the work of health service administrators by asking for returns showing the number of hours of voluntary work given by members of local health councils. The future of these councils is being examined as part of our consideration of the NHS in Scotland following the consultative document "The Structure and Management of the NHS in Scotland".
